Registration for British Citizens: LOCATE

What is LOCATE?

LOCATE is the online service which enables you, as a British citizen, to tell the British Embassy that you are visiting or living in Kuwait.

Why should I register?

You can never predict what might happen anywhere you travel. If you're caught up in a crisis, you'll want the best advice from the British Embassy on what is happening and in the quickest way. Situations can change fast. If you are registered, the British Consular team will know how to contact you, either to offer help or to let your family and friends know that you are safe.

How does it work?

When you have registered with us, we can send any important messages directly to your e-mail inbox, wherever you are, whether in Kuwait or travelling outside. The more details you leave with us - phone numbers and your address, as well as your email - the easier it is for us to help you in a crisis.

What do I have to do?

While you are on our website you can register with our online service; LOCATE. Complete your details and those of your family or any other British citizens living with you. You can also give us details of any family or friends living elsewhere you would like us to contact in the event of you being affected by an incident abroad.

Like any similar system, LOCATE is only as good as the information it contains.

If you are resident in Kuwait, you may register a trip for a year at a time unless you prefer to add any short trips you may make to other countries during the course of the year.

  • When you enter your trips, please note that the system assumes everybody is based in the UK. A "trip" can be a long weekend in Paris, 2 weeks in Cyprus or a few years (or more) living/working in Kuwait.
  •  The system asks if the "trip" is for less than 90 days or at least 90 days - the arrival and departure dates must correspond to the 90 days question. Accompanying family members should be entered in the separate section marked for this.
  •  In order to keep records accurate and up-to-date, "trips" cannot be more than a year at a time. So if you register now, put in the dates of your "trip" as of tomorrow till next year (let's say tomorrow is 9 June 2009 till 31 May 10). Please remember to update your details the next year.
  • Although the address in Kuwait is not one of the boxes marked as 'required' on Locate (as this system is used by both visitors and residents), we do urge you to enter your address so that you may be assigned a warden.
