Earth hour is a global initiative of the international environment organisation World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which urges state institutions, businesses and individual people all over the world to switch off their lights for one hour at 20:30 local time on 28 March 2009, and thus show their support for actions against climate change.
The initiative aims to send a message to world leaders in the run-up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009 that we need a global commitment to reduce green house emissions. Last year more than 77 countries and 680 cities participated in this global event.
