His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visits Kuwait
Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited The aim of their Royal Highnesses' visit was to build upon the historical and longstanding relations between the UK and Kuwait; reinforcing the UK's friendship with one of its key allies, as well as advancing and supporting the current work of the British Embassy. HRH The Prince of Wales visited Mubarak Al Abdullah Joint Command and Staff College, recognising the achievements of the British and Kuwaiti officers who have developed it into the premier college of its type in the Gulf. His Highness also discussed the important role and contribution of the college to the UK-Kuwait military relationship. The Prince of Wales is well known for his efforts in promoting initiatives, which help young people to make the transition from education to the work place. This is demonstrated through the work of Youth Business International (YBI), a charity established by The Prince following the success of his UK based charity, the Prince's Trust. These charities work, both overseas and in the UK, to promote youth development and entrepreneurship. Whilst in Kuwait HRH participated in a seminar, organised by the College of Business Administartion at Kuwait University, in partnership with YBI. The seminar brought together a range of experts from civil society, the public sector, education, and the private sector, to discuss how they could all work together to support young people venturing into the work place. His Royal Highness has a strong interest in helping to preserve the traditional arts and, during his visit to Kuwait, opened an exhibition at Sadu House. This exhibition included examples of Islamic art work from The Prince's School for Traditional Arts, as well as work produced by weavers and students during a workshop run by experts from the Prince's School. During the visit Kuwait Petroleum Company (KPC) hosted an exhibition, in partnership with Shell and BP, on the issue of clean energy. These three companies are working closely together on a joint research project about low carbon technology in the UK and Kuwait. They discussed with the Prince how British expertise might add value to future Kuwaiti plans in developing cleaner fuels and energy. At KACCH the Duchess was welcomed by the founders of the charity, Dr Hilal and Mrs Margaret Al Sayer. They highlighted the various activities undertaken by KACCH in support of children in hospital, including their work to build Kuwait's first children's hospice. Her Highness also met the children, their families, and the doctors, nurses, and volunteers who participate in KAACH's outreach programme linking schools and hospitals.
Their Royal Highnesses filled their 2 days here with a range of activities, including official calls and banquets with HH the Amir, HH the Crown Prince and HH the Prime Minister.
The Grand Mosque hosted a visit by Their Royal Highnesses, which included discussions with HE Dr Abdullah Al Matouq, Minister of Awqaf, and other senior officials from the Ministry, about their work to promote moderation. Whilst touring the Mosque, His Highness heard about the outreach programmes run by the Centre for Moderation and the Perception Centre, through which Kuwait is working to encourage a better understanding of Islam.
Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall enjoyed a separate programme of calls to the Centre for Child Evaluation and Teaching (CCET) and Kuwait Association for the Care of Children in Hospital (KACCH). She was met at CCET by founder and director, Mrs Faten Al Bader, who introduced her to students and teachers, and described how the centre is working, with UK experts, to improve the methods used in educating children with learning difficulties such as one to one tutorials. The Centre now works closely with British Universities and Institutions encouraging Kuwaiti teachers and researchers to pursue postgraduate study within this field.
